    This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Outstanding Community Engagement Awards recognizing the outstanding service of faculty, staff, students and community partners. The campus community is invited to the ceremony which will honor Lora Haynes, psychology; Melissa Horrar, KY Refugee Ministries; and students of Speed CECS 311 class. Thomas Crawford will receive the first Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Engagement.

    5.) Intramural Research Grants 2013 deadline is Monday, Oct. 14
    The Office of the EVPRI is accepting applications for Intramural Research Grants. This internal research grant program aims to provide funds for projects for which the investigator intends to seek external funding. All grant categories are open to full-time faculty. Term faculty, one year or less, are ineligible for MRG, PCG, RIG, and URG grants.

    6.) Blackboard to be upgraded to Service Pack 13 during December break
    10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 – 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23
    While it is upgraded, Blackboard will be unavailable during the above-listed time period. This version will introduce several new features, fixes and design improvements. Training classes will be announced shortly and feature documentation will be made available in the near future.

    7.) Service Spotlight: Kornhauser Library Helps You Meet NIH Open Access Requirements
    If you are not in compliance with the NIH’s public access policy, your grant application may be delayed. This policy requires submission of journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to the digital archive PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication.     9.) Learn about Real Food Challenge in ‘Food and Body Politic’ class
    2:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Oct. 3, Room 139, Shumaker Research Building, Belknap Campus
    Faculty and staff are invited to Jeneen Wiche’s class to hear Carmen Black, regional organizer for Real Food Challenge, talk about the challenges and complexities of the industrial food system as they play out in campus dining services. Black is working with several Kentucky colleges and universities to help bring “Real Food” to Kentucky to organize for a more just and sustainable food system. Come learn how to bring the Real Food Challenge to Sodexo and UofL and help influence your campus’ local food integrity.
