    FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES

    Eleanor Lederer, MD, FASN, FACP, Professor of Medicine at the UofL School of Medicine, has been elected president of the American Society of Nephrology. Lederer is also the chief of the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension and the director of the Nephrology Training Program at the UofL Physicians Outpatient Center.

    Monday, Nov. 28 – Brain tumors that were once inoperable are now being removed through the nose. UofL neurosurgeon Dr. Mary Koutourousiou is one of the few in the country using the endoscopic endonasal approach.

    UofL Cares Campaign: Join us for coffee and doughnuts at the Red Barn

    Nov. 28, 9 a.m., Red Barn
    Please join the UofL Cares Campaign on November 28 at 9:00am for Coffee and Doughnuts at the Red Barn. Representatives from all partnering charities will be present to share how you can impact our community this holiday season. Since 2006, the UofL Cares Campaign has raised more than $2M for charities in our community. This year’s campaign runs through November 30.

    ACC Festival of Creativity and Innovation

    UofL is participating in the first Atlantic Coast Conference Smithsonian Creativity and Innovation Festival in Washington, D.C., to be held at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in October, 2017. The festival will be a gathering of all institutions included in the ACC to celebrate creativity and innovation. Faculty, staff and students (graduate and undergraduate) are encouraged to submit engaging and compelling innovation projects to represent UofL.

    Holiday Party at the Planetarium

    December 3, 1-4 p.m., Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium; $5/person

    Take a break from the frantic holiday rush to have some family time at the planetarium. Kids enjoy treats while playing holiday-themed games and the whole family jingles out to favorite holiday songs in our Laser Holidays music show.

    GIVE SOME PEACC Donation Drive

    The Bellamy, BCM, PEACC Center office (SAC W309H), The LGBT Center, The SRC, The Women’s Center, The School of Dentistry, The Olga S. Peers Student-Athlete Center and The Cultural Center are collecting items for local shelters. Diapers, gift cards, and hygiene items are among the most needed items. Please drop off items at the locations listed by Thursday, December 8th. Volunteers are invited to help us pack gift bags for delivery at the PEACC Center on December 9 from 12-2 p.m.

    Workplace Dignity: A Qualitative Path of Discovery

    November 28, 5-7 p.m., Room E254, Ekstrom Library, Belknap Campus; free

    Special guest speakers Dr. Kristen Lucas and Cole Crider from the College of Business present on workplace dignity. Focusing on a diverse set of qualitative studies, Lucas will present both findings from research projects as well as insights gained into qualitative research techniques. Lucas and Crider will delve into in-depth coverage of a recent publication that analyzed a large set of ethnographies using fuzzy set analysis.
