1.) Faculty and staff art exhibit continues this week

Your co-workers have hidden talents; come and see what they are! The fourth annual Faculty/Staff Open Walls exhibit features 29 artists from across the university. Woodworking, basketry, photography, painting, drawing and jewelry-making are all represented, along with a few surprises.

2.) Cards Under the Stars Movie Series: Monsters University

UofL’s free family movie night series returns for 2014! The first outdoor movie of the summer will be Monsters University. The event begins with entertainment and the film begins at dusk. Activities include children’s inflatables and games, as well as music by Sonablast recording artist Heidi Howe. Concessions will be available for purchase from Holy Mole Taco Truck. Patrons are welcome to bring picnic baskets, coolers, lawn chairs and blankets.

3.) Enter the 23rd Annual Faculty/Staff/Alumni Golf Scramble

Entry fee includes greens fee, cart, skins game, team prizes, individual hole competitions, range balls and lunch. Retirees and spouses invited to play. Lunch provided by Sodexo before the round. Check-in between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Limited to the first 120 paid entries. Teams may be requested or individuals placed according to handicap or average score.

Are you caring for a loved one? Get Healthy Now and the Great Places to Work Work-Life Balance Committee host a series geared toward employees caring for a grand/child, parent, relative or friend. The monthly workshop is designed to provide access to important resources, inspire group support and promote self-care. The series is held the third Tuesday of each month. This month’s topic is “Financial Freedom: Resources that Help,” presented by JoAnn Kalb of Jewish Career and Family Services.

5.) Retirement luncheon tomorrow for Debbie Young

6.) Louisville Metro Fire Department on Belknap Campus for training
May 20 to 22, 9 to 11 a.m., Ekstrom Library
University Emergency Management is working with the fire department to provide a training opportunity involving the book retrieval system in the Ekstrom Library. Fire trucks will be parked by the library, but there is no emergency. Louisville Metro Fire Department and Emergency Management is a partnership that is helping to keep the university prepared.

7.) Surplus warehouse on limited schedule
Surplus Warehouse, 1901 S. Floyd St.
The Surplus Warehouse will be on a limited schedule until the end of June. The warehouse will be open 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for department selection on May 28 and June 11 but closed all other Wednesdays starting immediately. Departments may continue to send items to Surplus during this period.

9.) Nausea and vomiting after a scheduled surgery, birth through 17 years

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of a drug given orally prior to a scheduled surgery that is used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. Children from birth to 17 years of age may be eligible for participation. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel.

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate acetaminophen given into a vein to treat moderate to severe pain in infants and children less than 2 years of age following surgery or an injury. 11.) Pain study, 7 through 16 years

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of an investigational drug used to treat moderate to severe prolonged or persistent pain. Children 7 to less than 17 years of age who require continuous analgesia for moderate to severe pain for an extended period of time may be eligible for participation. Patients will be reimbursed for reasonable travel costs associated with their participation.

12.) Adolescent fibromyalgia study, 12 to 17 years

The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication being studied as a possible treatment for fibromyalgia. Adolescents ages 12 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia may be eligible for participation. If child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend seven clinic visits over a 17-week period. If qualified, child will receive the study medication or placebo (an inactive look-alike pill) and study-related care at no cost. Parents may be compensated for their time/travel.
