The University of Louisville is a partner in a federal program created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and honor Vietnam veterans and their families. As part of this program, the Vietnam War Commemoration Committee at UofL, along with the McConnell Center, Liberal Studies Project, president’s and provost’s offices and history department, is hosting a March 29 event about the Vietnam War’s Tet Offensive campaign.

2.) Policy Highlight: Cloud computing solutions should be reviewed
Dropbox and Google Drive are examples of cloud computing solutions. Regulations such as HIPAA, FERPA, and Kentucky HB5 must be considered when using this type of storage. Please review the University’s Information Security Cloud Computing Policy before storing University data in the cloud. 3.) March Madness Challenge: Final week to sign up
March 14 through April 11, Get Healthy Now Wellness Center at Humana Gym
Employees, retirees and their spouses/QAs
It’s the final week to sign up for GHN’s March Madness Challenge. Form a team of five UofL colleagues and earn points for participating in fitness classes and other exercise opportunities at the GHN Wellness Center. Compete head-to-head with other teams and advance with weekly challenges. Winners will receive a grand prize. Tip-off is March 14.

4.) Try a meatless meatball for Meatless Monday
In honor of National Meatball Day, March 9, the Meatless Monday challenge is to take the meat out of meatballs. Substitute meatless options such as quinoa, black beans or tempeh to mimic the meat version and pair with your favorite pasta for a unique meal.

5.) Invitation to attend the West Louisville Signature Partnership Institute

Open to residents and stakeholders of West Louisville neighborhoods, the Neighborhood Institute equips neighborhood leaders and aspiring leaders with the resources necessary to effect positive change. This six-week program has been developed in partnership with the VP Office of Community Engagement to specifically address the needs and concerns of residents of West Louisville. 6.) Workshop available on data sources for grad student researchers
March 8, 2 to 3 p.m., Room W102, Ekstrom Library, Belknap Campus
Locating relevant and usable data for a dissertation, thesis, or other large-scale project can be a challenging endeavor, even for the most experienced researcher. How do you know where to locate specific data sources? How do you know who produces relevant datasets? This workshop will focus on identifying and accessing data on topics relevant to researchers in the Social Sciences. 7.) Resource available on crowdfunding at UofL

Crowdfunding has come to UofL. The university has created a free crowdfunding resource for students, faculty and staff to raise money online for a specific projects and funding goals. Most recently, this platform was used for RaiseRED. If you have a funding need, crowdfunding may be your solution.

The UofL Student Parent Association of the Women’s Center will host an indoor picnic for UofL student-parents. 10.) University Writing Center welcomes regional writing center directors

Today the University Writing Center hosts 14 writing center professionals from Indiana and Kentucky for “Directors’ Day Out.” The event, sponsored by the Southeastern Writing Center Association, brings together directors and professionals from the region for workshops and discussion. Dr. Bronwyn Williams, Professor of English and Director of the University Writing Center, is the featured speaker. The theme for the day is “Creating ‘Feasible Utopias’ for Writing Centers.”

Authors Carrider Jones, Lance Newman, Dr. Daniel Withers, Mervin Aubespin and Kenneth Clay will share readings from oral histories taken in neighborhoods found in Jones’ book, Historical African American Communities near Louisville, Kentucky. The program is co-sponsored by the Filson Historical Society and the Louisville Free Public Library. The Filson is a member of A&S’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

14.) German law professor to talk on German Constitution and the EU

German Law Professor Ines Gillich will give a presentation on the German Constitution and the EU. These topics may be particularly interesting in light of the recent supremacy struggle between the German Constitutional Court and the Court of Justice of the EU.
