    Six students from UofL are attending the eighth annual Clinton Global Initiative University, which takes place March 6 to 8 at the University of Miami. More than 1,000 student leaders from around the world are expected to be there, along with former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.     Cancellations for March 5

    1.) UofL Theatre: ‘The African Company Presents Richard III’

    The UofL Theatre Arts Department will cancel the March 5 performance of “The African Company Presents Richard III” if the University is closed. Patrons who have already purchased a ticket for the performance may bring their ticket to any other performance during the show’s run and it will be honored. (Tickets for the cancelled March 4 performance will also be honored.) The show is scheduled to run through March 8.     4.) It is OK to wear blue: “Blue of L” Day is Friday

    March 6; luncheon begins 11:30 a.m.

    The Kentucky Cancer Program at UofL is trying to turn the town blue! Wear blue on Friday to promote colon cancer awareness for “Blue of L” Day! March is Colon Cancer Awareness month, and March 6 is Dress in Blue Day. Dress in blue and encourage friends, families and co-workers to get screened for colon cancer. A special luncheon will be held at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium featuring UofL President James Ramsey, Ky. Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen and others, along with video presentations from coaches Rick Pitino and Jeff Walz. Call 852-6318 to RSVP for the luncheon.

    7.) Retirement Planning Workshop

    Reservations are being accepted for the annual UofL Transformation Tea. This is an open forum for the diverse spectrum of women of color and their allies and will include panelists, Professor Laura Rothstein, School of Law and Mary Elizabeth Miles, Human Resources; networking opportunities; door prizes; presentation of the Unsung SHERO Award and refreshments.     10.) Information sessions scheduled on emphysema study

    UofL is the only Kentucky site for a national study on Zephyr Endobronchial Valves, which are designed to help improve lung function for patients with emphysema. The study has gotten local media attention in The Courier-Journal and WDRB-TV. Free information sessions on the study are being offered on March 16, from 10am-11:30 OR 12-1:30pm or 2-3:30pm at the UofL Health Care Outpatient Center (HCOC).     11.) Seminars in Neuroscience

    The Seminars in Neuroscience is pleased to host Pantelis Tsoulfas, MD, associate professor of neurological surgery and cell biology and anatomy, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The title of his lecture is “Seeing is believing: Early 20th century discoveries inspire modern technologies for imaging spinal cord injury in 3D.” Light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Robert Friedland, professor of neurology, will present New perspectives on the mechanisms initiating neuronal loss in Parkinson’s disease: what can be done today?, and Dr. Kathrin LaFaver, assistant professor of neurology, will present New therapies for Parkinson’s Disease in 2015: Perspectives on medical and surgical treatment options.     14.) Workshop on digital research and ethical research practices

    Dr. Heidi McKee is an expert in digital research and ethical research practices at Miami University in Ohio. She will offer a morning workshop, “Individuals, Communities, and Corporations: Navigating Ethical Issues When Researching with(in) Digital Technologies,” addressing methodological and ethical issues when doing digital scholarship. Sponsored by the Thomas R. Watson endowment, whose programmatic theme this year is the investigation of how academics can be responsive teachers, researchers and community partners.

    16.) Family & Geriatric Medicine

    Barbara Schrodt, MD, assistant clinical professor of medicine and dermatology, UofL, presents Childhood Exanthems. Upon completion of this lecture, the participant should: Become familiar with the more common exanthems composing first, second, third and fifth and sixth diseases and their dermatalogic findings. Formulate a differential diagnosis for each childhood exanthem. Become aware of the potential complications with each exanthem.

    Grand Rounds will be canceled if the University is on a delay.
