    3.) Vietnamese to recount war experiences

    March 31, 6 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Chao Auditorium

    Free

    Forty years after the fall of Saigon, Vietnamese immigrants who live in Louisville will recount their experiences in “Unheard Tales of the Vietnam War: A South Vietnamese Perspective from Kentucky.” UofL is a partner in the federal program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and to honor Vietnam veterans and their families.

    5.) Event tonight with the ‘Dad’ from ‘Sh*t My Dad Says’

    10.) Faculty Survey of Student Engagement available today

    Faculty may now complete the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) through an email link in their UofL account. The FSSE measures faculty expectations for student engagement in educational practices that are known to be empirically linked with high levels of learning and development. Students recently completed the companion National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). The voice of our faculty is important in discussions about student engagement. Please take a moment to participate.

    11.) June Delphi U application deadline extended

    June 1-5 Founders Union, Shelby Campus; deadline to apply is April 20

    Free

    The application deadline for the June 1-5 session of Delphi U has been extended to Monday, April 20. This free, four and a half-day workshop offers faculty the chance to work with colleagues and Delphi Center staff to incorporate best practices when designing, revising, or delivering online courses.     12.) HSC Faculty: Learn the Top 10 tips for creating accessible courses

    The idea of making your course accessible to students with disabilities can seem daunting. However, in this presentation, you will learn 10 simple techniques that will not only increase the accessibility of your course, but may benefit all students.     13.) Blackboard Summer and Fall 2013 courses to be deleted

    Blackboard courses from the summer and fall 2013 (4135, 4138) will be archived and deleted after March 31. This is a semi-annual process by the Delphi Center that frees up server space for new courses. If you have a specific need to keep a spring 2013 course available beyond March 31, please submit a request using the link below.     14.) Deadline to order caps and gowns is March 31

    The deadline for students and faculty to order caps and gowns for May 2015 commencement is Tuesday, March 31 at midnight. Caps and gowns may be ordered by going to the commencement website http://louisville.edu/commencement

    15.) ‘Tunnel of Oppression’ open at Miller Hall

    March 31, 7 to 10 p.m., First Year Resource Center, Miller Hall

    Free

    This is a unique, monumental experience for all who attend. In a theatrical, informative and thought-provoking format, the “Tunnel of Oppression” raises awareness for the importance of diversity and inclusion. It will take individuals 30 to 40 minutes to take a complete tour through the tunnel. All are welcome! Please join us as we seek to explore very real issues in hopes of making our campus and community a better place for all.

    16.) 25th Annual Neuroscience Day deadline March 31

    March 31, 5 p.m.

    Tuesday is the deadline for abstract submission and early registration for the 25th Annual Neuroscience Day, to be held on April 23. Poster competition categories include undergraduate, graduate student, and postdoc/resident. Be sure to list position of first author when submitting your abstract using the online form.

     

    17.) Students on the Spectrum: Learn about autism

    March 31, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Shumaker Research Building 139

    The numbers of students with Asperger’s syndrome/autism enrolled on college campuses is increasing around the nation and UofL is no exception. Attend this informative session to learn more about the challenges experienced by students with autism, as well as how students “on the spectrum” contribute to the rich diversity of our campus. Perspectives from the Kentucky Autism Training Center, Disability Resource Center and a personal perspective from a student with autism will be shared.

    18.) Shed the red for teal in April to support Sexual Assault Awareness

    April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The #SAAM 2015 campaign is: It’s time to act. Safer campuses. Brighter futures. Prevent sexual violence. The UofL Police Department joins advocates and campus communities across the country in taking a stand by playing a pro-active role to educate and prevent sexual violence. Each day of the year is an opportunity to create change for the future. When we all play a role, we can prevent sexual violence.

    Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend this training. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in.     Fair Use is a misunderstood but central foundation for using copyrighted resources. It also serves a broader role in preserving your right to decide when, how and where to use protected works. As part of the University Libraries Copyright in Focus series, Professor Dwayne K. Buttler, Endowed Chair, University Libraries, will discuss copyright in teaching, research and the broader culture. University Libraries will also host a copyright Q&A session at noon with pizza.
