    DID YOU KNOW?

     

    UofL has again been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security. This designation recognizes the need to promote cybersecurity education in higher ed as the country faces ever-increasing cyber threats and the subsequent increase in need for cybersecurity professionals. UofL had the designation from 2006-2010, and the current recognition runs through 2019.

    1.) Thefts from autos reported in Floyd Street garage

    The University Police have received three reports of thefts from autos that were parked in the Floyd Street Parking Garage. The thefts have occurred over the past 10 days and it appears the thieves may be looking for electronic items. The University Police have stepped up patrols in the area, but advise anyone parking their vehicle on any parking lot to:

    ·         Lock the vehicle

    ·         Don’t leave items, including loose change, in view

    ·         Lock items in the trunk

    ·         Hide/secure radar detectors and GPS units (including the mounted holders)

    ·         Report suspicious activity

    The deadline for students and faculty to order caps and gowns for May 2015 commencement is Tuesday, March 31 at midnight. Caps and gowns may be ordered by going to the commencement website http://louisville.edu/commencement

    4.) Kornhauser presents Against the Odds: Making the Difference in Global Health

    Against the Odds: Making a Difference in Global Health is a banner traveling exhibition highlighting the role of communities in improving health at home and all around the world. The exhibition explores the shared basic needs required for a good quality of life, including nutritious food and clean water, a safe place to live and affordable health care.     5.) PEACC presents The StoryCatcher Project

    March 26, 7:30 to 9 p.m., Thrust Theatre, UofL Theatre Arts

    The PEACC Program is pleased to showcase a powerful performance and art exhibit in which 10 participants creatively share their connection to interpersonal violence using Native American ritual and storytelling. This inspirational experience is a way to increase truth-telling among survivors of violence and raise awareness of how abusive power impacts us all. Come honor Women’s History Month and Kentucky’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month with us.

    6.) Autism Center advocacy workshop is tonight

    The Office of Autism, KY-SPIN, KPFC (Kentucky Partnership for Families and Children), and The Point ARC of Northern Kentucky will discuss advocacy tonight at the University of Louisville Autism Center. This is part of a free workshop series.     Fair Use is a misunderstood but central foundation for using copyrighted resources. It also serves a broader role in preserving your right to decide when, how and where to use protected works. As part of the University Libraries Copyright in Focus series, Professor Dwayne K. Buttler, Endowed Chair, University Libraries, will discuss copyright in teaching, research and the broader culture. University Libraries will also host a copyright Q&A session at noon with pizza.

    8.) Lang Symposium: Authoritarian Persistence in Central Asia

    11.) Medicine presents Dr. Garrett Adams

    Medicine Grand Rounds features Garrett Adams, MD, associate professor emeritus of pediatrics at UofL and past president of Physicians for a National Health Program. Dr. Adams will present Why Doctors Support Single Payer, focusing on what single payer national health insurance is, adverse effects of wealth inequality on health and society, why publicly funded national health insurance is necessary to improve health outcomes, and how it address many problems American physicians face today.
