1.) Tickets on sale for ‘Sleep Rock Thy Brain’

Adults: $15; UofL faculty/staff, students, senior citizens: $10
For most of history, the study of sleep and dreaming has been relegated to psychology, philosophy and literature. Only in the last few decades have scientists begun to investigate the whys and wherefores of sleep. A UofL collaboration with Actors Theatre of Louisville, ZFX Flying Effects, Lincoln Performing Arts School and Jefferson County Public Schools, “Sleep Rock Thy Brain” harnesses the rich movement vocabulary of flight to explore the mysteries and complexities of the sleeping brain. The play will be 8 p.m. April 10-14, plus a 3 p.m. matinee April 14, at Lincoln Elementary Performing Arts School, 930 E. Main St

2.) 2013 Kentucky Student Success Summit
April 15-16
The Kentucky Student Success Summit stimulates conversations among faculty, staff and administrators on ways to improve classroom and instructional practices to enhance student success. Breakout sessions will focus on best practices in developing and implementing first year experiences and learning communities. Limited conference spaces are available free to faculty and staff through the Office of the University Provost. Deadline to register is April 5.

Elaine Pagels, professor of religion at Princeton University, is considered to be one of the world’s foremost religion scholars. John Ferré, A&S interim dean, will moderate a forum and Q&A with Pagels. The forum will focus on Pagels’ new book “Revelations: Visions, Prophecy, and Politics in the Book of Revelation.” Pagels will be guest of the Kentucky Author Forum in the evening.

4.) ‘Jumpin Jive’ Music Dinner Dance Sunday, March 24

The “Jumpin Jive” dinner dance fund raiser for the School of Music will be Sunday, March 24, at the Henry Clay Beaux Arts Ballroom, 604.S. Third St. The 4th annual event starts at 5 p.m. for cocktails with dinner at 6 p.m. The event features a silent auction, raffle, costume and dance contests and music by the Jumpin Jive Orchestra Jazz Ensemble I under the direction of John LaBarbera. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the School of Music.

All summer and fall textbook and course materials orders must be submitted to UofL’s official campus bookstore by April 1 to assure compliance with the federal government Higher Education Opportunity Act. Your action now allows students to see textbook and course materials information as they register for classes and helps them receive more money at buy back. The UofL bookstore shares textbook and course materials information with other off-campus bookstores that request the information.

10.) March 22 is the last day to comment on proposed TARC changes
Friday, March 22, is the last day for students, faculty and staff to comment on proposed changes to Transit Authority of River City (TARC) routes that affect UofL’s campuses. TARC has proposed changes to five of its routes, effective June 9. The affected routes include the #2 Second Street route, #4 Fourth Street route, #18 Preston route, #25 Oak Street with #55 Westport Road routes and #27 Hill Street route. Specific information on the route changes can be located at www.ridetarc.org. Email comments to Mitchell Payne at UofL by Friday, March 22.

Professor Lee Shai Weissbach, UofL Department of History, will deliver the 2013 Naamani Memorial Lecture. The lecture will include a slide presentation, questions from the audience and an opportunity to continue the conversation at a dessert reception. This lecture will explore the history of Jewish life in small-town America, focusing on its heyday in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The talk will compare key features of differently sized U.S. Jewish communities.
