    DID YOU KNOW
    UofL men’s basketball team will tip off Friday against Jacksonville State in the 2017 NCAA Championship. This marks Louisville’s 42nd NCAA Tournament appearance – the fifth most in the nation. This year also marks the third time that UofL has entered the tournament as a No. 2 seed.
     
    FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES
    Dr. Gail DePuy is a recipient of the 2017 Giving Back Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The Giving Back Award honors college and university administrators who go above and beyond their everyday leadership duties and “give back” to their campuses and communities. DePuy, associate dean of Academic & Student Affairs for the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, will be featured in the April issue.

    UofL Alumni Association’s Bracketology 2017 
    March 14, 5 p.m. Olmstead, $50
    Kick off the NCAA tournament and glean expert advice on March 14 at “Bracketology 2017,” an annual event hosted by the UofL Alumni Association. ESPN 680’s Jason Anderson will serve as emcee, with Denny Crum, Darrell Griffith, Marques Maybin, and Luke Hancock as the expert panel. Enjoy an autograph signing followed by dinner and bracket discussion.

    Brain Days at the Kentucky Science Center
    April 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; Kentucky Science Center, 727 W. Main St.; cost is part of regular admission
    The Louisville Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is putting on Brain Days at the KSC. Interactive, hands-on activities on all three floors will inform visitors about the brain, spinal cord, motor function, and more. There are activities for ages 3 – adult.

    Talk: A Muslim American U.S. Marine
    March 21, 7-9 p.m., Student Activities Center – MPR; Free
    With recent political events, we believe a strong presenter who speaks against stereotypes and prejudices about the Muslim community is needed. To do so, we have invited Mansoor Shams to speak. Shams is a U.S. Marine Veteran, business owner, and Muslim youth leader. Representatives from the Mayor’s office (Bryan Warren and Muhammad Babar) and the Interfaith Paths to Peace will also speak at the event.

    Building Hope Seminar today
    March 14, 6-7 p.m., Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Rd.; Free
    Dr. David Casey, professor and chair, UofL Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Dr. Zachary Sager, 4th year resident, will discuss “Death, Dying, Grief, and Palliative Care: A Psychiatric Perspective.” They will discuss the psychological aspects of death and dying. They will also discuss the psychological and emotional components of grief and bereavement, and the physical and emotional effects of caring for a dying loved one.

    Studies
    Participants needed for e-cigarette study
    IRB # 16.0685, Health Sciences Campus
    UofL’s School of Medicine is conducting a study on the use of electronic cigarettes in healthy young adults (18-40). The study is recruiting healthy unmedicated participants who only use e-cigarettes. The study will be two study visits that will last 2.5-3 hours and include questionnaires on your social history, health, tobacco use patterns, blood and urine collection, and other measures to give us an idea of your heart health. Participant compensation will be as a $200 prepaid Visa card.
