1.) Still using Windows XP? Support will end in April 2014
Microsoft support for XP will end on April 8, in accordance with Microsoft’s Support Lifecycle policy. After this date, there will be no new security updates or virus definitions, and free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates for XP will no longer be available. Unsupported operating systems are vulnerable to security risks. IT recommends that you upgrade to Windows 7. The new Windows 8 operating system is not fully compatible with UofL applications. 2.) Still time to RSVP for A&S luncheon on finding funding

The Arts and Sciences Research Office website was down Monday, but there is still time to RSVP for the Brown Bag Series luncheon on finding grant funding. This session, presented in collaboration with the CEHD Research Office and led by Susanna Cornett, grant manager specialist, will focus on sources of funding, including the federal government and the Foundation Center. 5.) Faculty: Learn to help students articulate and examine their assumptions

Getting students to articulate and examine the assumptions they have about themselves, the subject matter, or their role as learners is a significant challenge for most instructors. In this session, we will delve into this domain of thinking by sharing and practicing a variety of teaching strategies designed to help students engage in systemic self-reflection regarding their assumptions. Latinos face many challenges that deter their continued retention and post-graduation success. Join your colleagues in an interactive panel discussion comprised of Latino and Latina faculty, staff and students, exploring ways in which you as faculty can become informed advocates for your Latino students, and discuss opportunities to maintain an inclusive environment in which Latino students can thrive. 7.) Compassionate Love study

UofL researchers are still seeking faculty and staff to participate in a “compassionate love” study. The anonymous, 15-20 minute study measures actions identified as self-compassion, self-forgiveness, self-esteem, spirituality, forgiveness, empathy, sympathy, altruistic values, compassion and compassionate love.
