    1.) Campus invited to meet vice provost for enrollment management candidates

    The university community is invited to campus presentations by the candidates for the vice provost for strategic enrollment management and student success, to be held Wednesday, June 22, and Monday-Thursday, June 27-30, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room 139, Shumaker Research Building.  Dr. Stephen McKellips from the University of Memphis will be on campus June 22. He will present: Enrollment Management and Student Success: Vision for a Metropolitan Research University. The ad for the position and the candidates’ CVs can be found online.      

     

    2.) Unity Place to be closed June 23-30

    Unity Place, the road that serves Greek Row and Community Park on the west side of Belknap Campus, will be closed to through traffic June 23-30 for demolition and paving. The road is scheduled to reopen on July 1.

     

    3.) Speed entrance, Third Street parking lot closings delayed to Aug. 1

    The Eastern Parkway entrance to the parking lots behind J.B. Speed School of Engineering and the Third Street “green” parking lot will remain open until Aug. 1. For more information on campus construction projects, visit louisville.edu/president/special-programs/streetscape.

     

    4.) Cards Under the Stars featuring ‘Zootopia’ is Friday

    June 24, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, movie begins at dusk; Free admission

    Cards Under the Stars featuring “Zootopia’ is Friday June 24. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler or purchase concessions onsite food trucks Hi-Five Doughnuts and 502 Café. Activities include inflatables, crafts, and appearance by the Louisville League of Mascots. The UofL police department will also be at the event, including K-9 officer Sam, to show the department’s Segway, ATVs and bicycles used for patrol. Cards under the Stars is sponsored by Commonwealth Credit Union.

    5.) HSC Research Forum scheduled

    June 21, 12-1 p.m., CTRB Room 101/102

    The HSC Research Forum co-sponsored by the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Vice Dean for Research, School of Medicine will discuss the V.A.’s Million Veterans Program presented by Dr. Jon Klein, V.A. research program presented by Dr. Eleanor Lederer, cautionary tales of late and same day grant submissions by Andrew French, and NIH updates by Dr. Craig McClain.

    6.) UofL Advanced Placement Summer Institute takes place this week

    June 20, 8 a.m., College of Education and DuPont Manual High School

    The Office of Admissions is hosting high school teachers from around the country to the seventh annual Advanced Placement Summer Institute (UofL APSI). Participants will receive training in subject areas such as English Literature, U.S. History, World History, Calculus AB, Physics I, and Environmental Science during this four and one half day institute. The event ends Friday, June 24 at noon.

    7.) Nominees for ODK membership requested

    Office of Student Involvement is currently accepting nominations for students interested in joining the national honor society, Omicron Delta Kappa. Students must show significant achievement in academics, athletics, service, leadership, journalism, or the arts.

    8.) Deadline for Summer 2016 STEM GTA Mini-Academy extended to Friday

    The STEM GTA Mini-Academy is a free, week-long series of sessions to assist Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) in STEM fields in developing knowledge, skills, and excellence in classroom teaching. Content includes understanding today’s students, using research about how students learn, measuring learning, designing activities, and practicing teaching. The deadline for applications is now Friday, June 24, 2016.

    9.) Webinar: ‘What’s New at the NIH? Requirements to Address Rigor and Reproducibility in Research Grant Applications’

    June 22, 2-3 p.m., Room 124, Clinical &Translational Research Bldg.; Free

    After this webinar you will understand revisions to NIH proposal content requirements and peer review criteria to include assessment of rigor and reproducibility in research. You will also become familiar with diverse resources available to help investigators meet new requirements to address key aspects of rigor and reproducibility in grant applications.

    10.) Volunteers needed for Dissertation Study

    Mentally and physically healthy women, ages 18-40, are needed for a dissertation study on stress, emotion and the immune system. This study aims to better understand how stress and emotions are connected to health. No chronic conditions, current psychiatric diagnoses or medications (birth control OK). Single, 2-hour afternoon visit on Belknap campus. Eligible participants will be entered into a lottery for one of two $50 Visa prepaid cards. Please email for full eligibility criteria.
