    On July 1, the University of Louisville is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference! Between now and then, UofL Today is bringing you a few tidbits every day about the 14 other ACC schools. Later, we will use this spot for daily morsels of information about UofL.

     

    Did you know … The Georgia Institute of Technology—Georgia Tech—has 20,000 students and is located in the heart of Atlanta. Brian Stone Jr., a Georgia Tech associate professor of city and regional planning, is leading an urban-heat study for the city of Louisville after his research into urban climates found Louisville may be heating up faster than any other metro area.     1.) Reminder: Cards Under the Stars free ‘Frozen’ sing-along is tonight

    June 20, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall

    Free

    The event begins at 6:30 with children’s inflatables and games, music by Leigh Ann Yost and a “Frozen photo area (photos end promptly at 8:30 p.m.). The film begins around dusk. Bring lawn chairs and/or a blanket and a picnic dinner or purchase food and drinks from Sweet ‘N’ Savory food truck and Red Top Hot Dogs.     2.) Two weekend traffic alerts for Belknap Campus

    June 20 to 23

    ·        3rd Street: One lane in each direction will be closed through Monday so workers can perform routine maintenance on the pavers in front of the Oval. Access to the Oval will remain open, with one side closing at a time.

    ·        Warnock St. (reminder): CSX will be replacing the rail ties at the Warnock RR crossing beginning Friday around 8 a.m. and the intersection will be blocked through sometime Monday morning.

     

    3.) Butterfly count Saturday at Horner Wildlife Sanctuary

    June 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Horner Wildlife Sanctuary

    No experience necessary! UofL biology professor emeritus Charles Covell and other butterfly specialists will lead the local activities for children and adults. Volunteers are not required to stay the entire time. Wear hats, hiking shoes, long pants and long-sleeved shirts and bring water, lunch and insect repellent.
