    1.) Watch out for phishing scam

    Information Technology has received reports regarding a new phishing scam sent by email to university account holders. If you have received a notice that says it is from the University of Louisville and also says it is from Secure Information Technology, Service Account regarding personalizing your inbox (it may say “The new mail Version is here” in the subject line), please delete it immediately. Never give out your personal information or password. When you receive a suspicious email like this, send it as an attachment to abuse@messaging.microsoft.com so that the university’s spam filters are updated.

    2.) Spike it to Cancer at benefit volleyball event

    June 7, 1 p.m. registration, 3 p.m. games begin, Baxter Jack’s, 427 Baxter Ave.

    Come to the second annual “Spike it to Cancer” sand volleyball tournament to benefit the Mary Jane Gift Quality of Life Fund at UofL’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

    4.) CORRECTION: Grant Crafting Brown Bag Series session

    June 4, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Shumaker Research Building, Room 139

    The free “Grant Crafting Brown Bag Series” series features discussions on various grant topics. The June 4 session focuses on “Post-award Grant Management. ” The session will be co-presented by Steve Tabeling in the CEHD Research Office and Diane Penrod of A&S Research. Each 90-minute session is made up of a 45-minute presentation followed by time for questions and discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch. The series is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Research Office in collaboration with the College of Education and Human Development Research Office.

    5.) Faculty/Staff Discount: 2014 UofL Soccer Season Tickets at Lynn Stadium

    $45 General Admission, $60 Preferred ($75 per account donation) and $95 Premium ($100 per account donation)

    2014 UofL Soccer Season Ticket packages will include all 21 men’s and women’s regular season home matches. Lynn Stadium will officially open on Friday, August 29 and feature a doubleheader with our women’s team hosting Ole Miss at 6pm and our men’s team hosting Maryland at 8:30pm.

    6.) 2014-15 Paul Weber Award information session scheduled

    June 9, 2 to 3 p.m., Delphi Center (2nd floor, Ekstrom Library)

    Register to attend an informal information session to learn more about the application process and submission timeline for the 2014-2015 Paul Weber Award for Department Excellence in Teaching. The award seeks to foster and sustain a university-wide culture of teaching excellence by recognizing departments that demonstrate best practices in teaching and learning. Stage one applications are due August 15.

    7.) Distance education library available for summer article and book requests

    Need sources to bolster those summer research papers? Journal articles and books can be requested through Distance Learning Library Services (DLLS). Articles are emailed. Books can be postal-mailed to locations in the United States. This service includes requesting items from non-UofL libraries. Request items here.

    8.) PLAN workshop: Complete summer projects with backwards design

    June 5, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Houchens Building, Room 105

    Have big plans for all you want to accomplish this summer? Nervous that May has already slipped away? Backwards design can help you achieve your goals. Although the concept of backwards design is most often used with planning academic courses, it can be effectively utilized for project and schedule management as well. At this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of backwards design and begin mapping out the process for achieving your summer goals.

    9.) Pediatric high blood pressure study, 6 through 11 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of an investigational drug used to treat high blood pressure. Children from 6 through 11 years of age diagnosed with high blood pressure may be eligible to participate. Subjects will be compensated for time/travel. IRB #10.0306.

    10.) Study for nausea and vomiting after a scheduled surgery, birth through 17 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of a drug given orally prior to a scheduled surgery that is used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. Children from birth to 17 years of age may be eligible to participate. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel. IRB #12.0552.

    11.) Pain study, infants and toddlers, less than 2 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate acetaminophen given into a vein to treat moderate to severe pain in infants and children less than 2 years of age following surgery or an injury. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel. IRB #12.0228

    12.) Adolescent Fibromyalgia Study, 12 to 17 years

    The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication being studied as a possible treatment for fibromyalgia. Adolescents ages 12 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia may be eligible for participation. If child qualifies to take part in this study, he/she will attend seven clinic visits over a 17-week period. If qualified, child will receive the study medication or placebo (an inactive look-alike pill) and study-related care at no cost. Parents may be compensated for their time/travel. IRB # 10.0116

    13.) Pediatric Pain Study, 7 through 16 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of an investigational drug used to treat moderate to severe prolonged or persistent pain. Children 7 to less than 17 years of age who require continuous analgesia for moderate to severe pain for an extended period of time may be eligible for participation. Patients will be reimbursed for reasonable travel costs associated with their participation. IRB #12.0192
