Undergraduate students will present the results from their 10-week summer research experience. Participants in the Biology REU, Cancer Education R25, Chemistry REU, KBRIN, Physiology Cardiovascular, SROP, and students supported by Faculty Grants, will present.

2.) Green Tip: Weave sustainability into your fall courses
As you finalize fall syllabi, the Sustainability Council encourages faculty from all disciplines to integrate themes of environmental, social and economic stewardship into your courses, research and service learning projects. We have class discussion guides, online learning resources, info on grants, community groups and campus sustainability efforts that need your help, and engaging events throughout the year like UofL Sustainability Week, October 20 to 26.

3.) Participants needed for tobacco study
UofL’s School of Medicine is conducting a study on the effects of tobacco exposure in healthy young adults. The study will recruit healthy unmedicated individuals who have never used tobacco or who have used any tobacco product. The study will be one visit that will last approximately two hours and include questionnaires on your health, tobacco use patterns, blood and urine collection, and other measures to give us an idea of your heart health. 4.) Type 2 diabetes mellitus study, children and adolescents 10 to 17
The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and the Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the metabolism, as well as safety, of a medication in children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. If the child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend three clinic visits, receive the study medication and study-related care at no cost. 5.) Type 2 diabetes mellitus study, children and adolescents 10 to 17
The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and the Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a medication in adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. If the child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend 11 visits over 56 weeks, receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and the Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a medication in adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. If the child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend nine visits over a year, receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. 7.) Autism study for children 4 to less than 8 years old
The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate how a medication treats abnormal EEGs without seizures, as well as behavioral and neurological symptoms, in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). If a child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. Parents will be offered compensation for time/travel. 8.) Research study for nausea and vomiting after a scheduled surgery, birth through 17 years
The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of a drug given orally prior to a scheduled surgery that is used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. Children from birth to 17 years of age may be eligible for participation. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel. IRB #12.0552

9.) Pain study, infants and toddlers, less than 2 years
The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate acetaminophen given into a vein to treat moderate to severe pain in infants and children less than 2 years of age following surgery or an injury. 10.) Adolescent fibromyalgia study, 12 to 17 years
The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication being studied as a possible treatment for fibromyalgia. Adolescents ages 12 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia may be eligible for participation. If child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend seen clinic visits over a 17-week period. If qualified, child will receive the study medication or placebo (an inactive look-alike pill) and study-related care at no cost. Parents may be compensated for their time/travel. IRB # 10.0116

11.) Pediatric pain study, 7 through 16 years
The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of an investigational drug used to treat moderate to severe prolonged or persistent pain. Children 7 to less than 17 years of age who require continuous analgesia for moderate to severe pain for an extended period of time may be eligible for participation. Patients will be reimbursed for reasonable travel costs associated with their participation in the study. IRB #12.0192
