DID YOU KNOW John Breckinridge Castleman, an 1868 UofL law graduate, is considered the father of Louisville’s park system. As the city’s first parks commissioner, Castleman is credited with bringing Frederick Law Olmsted to Louisville in 1890 to work on the city’s parks design. Castleman also donated land for Cherokee Park, where his statue now stands in tribute.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Dr. Jacek Zurada, Life Fellow of IEEE and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering delivered a keynote lecture in machine learning and neural networks area at IEEE INISTA 2017 Conference in Gdynia, Poland, on July 3. The conference has featured speakers in reproducible research, big data and multi-parameter decision-making and applications of artificial intelligence. This international event was sponsored by the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society and has attracted about 100 PhD students and faculty.
