    Did You Know?

    Recent UofL graduate Crystian Wiltshire played the leading role of Romeo Montague during this summer’s production of “Romeo and Juliet” by the Kentucky Shakespeare Theatre Company. The performance also featured UofL graduate Byron Coolie playing Mercutio.

    UofL Today with Mark Hebert

    1.) WHAS-TV, Great Day Live

    Mondays at 9:30 a.m. UofL’s Mark Hebert has a story about UofL and talks with Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners about campus events.  Segments can be found on YouTube.  

    • This week’s show featured McConnell Center’s Strategic Command seminar for Army officers

    WLKY-TV also runs the UofL stories on their Saturday morning newscasts.

     

    2.) Radio Show

    Airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6 p.m. on 93.9 FM The Ville; replayed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Hebert hosts two weekly 30-minute programs focusing on research, programs, successful students and insights from UofL’s faculty experts. This week’s schedule:

    4.) Book-in-Common author to visit UofL

    Sept. 27; Free and open to the public

    “Hidden America” author Jeanne Marie Laskas will visit UofL on Tues., Sept. 27. Included in her visit are a free writing workshop (4 to 5:15 p.m.) and keynote lecture with book signing (7 p.m.). Consider integrating the text into your work with students, attending/promoting related events with your students, or partnering with the BinC program on your ideas for collaboration and connection.     5.) 2016-17 university parking permits now available

    All parking permits need to be replaced by Aug. 22. Parking permit are now on sale.     6.) Louisville Food Cooperative meeting to discuss cooperative grocery

    Aug. 2, 6-8 p.m., 1619 Flux, 1619 W. Main St.

    The Louisville Food Cooperative will host a meeting to discuss plans for a cooperative grocery in Louisville. The meeting will include a presentation on worker-owned cooperative by Brandeis School of Law Professor Ariana Levinson. UofL’s Justin Mog, assistant to the provost for Sustainability Initiatives, and EcoReps’ director Brian Barnes, have been involved in this project.

    7.) HSC Ice Cream Social set for Wednesday

    July 27, 2-4 p.m., HSC Plaza; Free

    The annual Health Sciences Campus Ice Cream Social will be held July 27, from 2 to 4 p.m., on the HSC Plaza. It will feature Comfy Cow ice cream.

    8.) Dependent Verification Audit – Take action now

    9.) Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, Distinguished Lecture on Cannabis

    August 4, 7-9 p.m., Louisville Free Public Library, Main Branch, 301 York St.; Free, but tickets are needed

    “The Cannabis Conundrum: The genetics & politics of America’s most controversial plant,” will be presented by DL Dr. George Weiblen of the Univ. of Minnesota. He studies the genetics of cannabis and challenges opinions on all sides of the debate of cannabis, used for fiber, oil, nutritious seeds, and psychoactive drugs.

    10.) Healthy volunteers needed for study

    UofL Caregiver Stress Study is looking for healthy European American, 40 years and older who have NOT provided care for an ill friend or family member in the last year to fill out a questionnaire and provide saliva samples for up to three different time points. Each visit takes approximately 1 hour. We are offering $20 compensation for each visit.
