    DID YOU KNOW

    The 20-month UK-UofL Exec MBA program is designed for C-suite executives and other business professionals, and is the first comprehensive executive MBA in the region. It is also the only program in the area to have been awarded a Tier One Global Executive MBA ranking by CEO Magazine, which currently ranks the UK-UofL Exec MBA 28th in the world.

    Dr. Baron Kelly recently delivered the Keti Koti keynote address on Slavery, Resistance, and Globalized Multicultural Theatre at the National Institute for the Study of Dutch Slavery and Its Legacy in Amsterdam. In addition, he taught on the faculty of the University of Amsterdam’s Black Europe Summer School.

    This week: The LGBT Center was one of the first at a southern school. Director Brian Buford talks about the center and its 10th anniversary. Daniel DeCaro is an assistant professor who’s doing research on why people cooperate and why they don’t. Jessica Eaton is a Fulbright Scholar and UofL Medical School student who studied in Malawi, one of the poorest countries on Earth.

    There will be two open forums hosted by Dr. Postel and are intended for the entire University community. The dates are as follows:

    Volunteer for Campus Housing Move-In Days

    August 16
    Campus Housing is excited to welcome more than 2,000 first-year students moving into the residence halls on our two Move-In Days on Tuesday, Aug. 15 and Wednesday, Aug. 16. Help get our new students settled into their new campus homes. Visit online to sign up as a volunteer. The link will allow you to select times, as well as request certain duties for the day. Free Papa John’s Pizza will be available for registered volunteers on Aug. 16.

    There is still time to apply to the Clinical Investigation Sciences program for Fall 2017

    The School of Public Health and Information Sciences is accepting applications to the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation Sciences (31 credits) and the Certificate in Clinical Investigation Sciences (15 credits) through August 1 for the 2017-18 academic year. These are ideal programs for medical fellows and residents interested in clinical investigation.

    ‘The Farthest – Voyager in Space’

    July 23, 1-3 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m.; and July 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
    “The Farthest — Voyager in Space” premiers on KET in August, telling the captivating tales behind one of humanity’s greatest achievements in space exploration. The mission revolutionized our understanding of the spectacular outer planets and their many peculiar moons. Special screenings of this exciting documentary will be shown in the planetarium dome.     Carnosine for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Study

    The UofL Health Sciences Center is seeking PAD patients between age 50-80 with and without claudication to determine whether Carnosine/Placebo supplementation for 6 months improves walking ability.     The Neuropsychology and Aging Lab at the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences is investigating effective ways to educate adults about Alzheimer’s Disease. Participation takes about 20-60 minutes and involves completing an online education module followed by answering survey questions. Participation can take place at home or another place of convenience. The survey can be accessed online

    E-cigarette smokers needed for study

    “Louisville Healthy Heart Study” Andrew DeFilippis, MD, of Cardiovascular Medicine is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of environmental exposures on cardiovascular disease risk. Participation requires two 60-minute visits to complete a questionnaire, have an EKG, and give blood and urine samples. Subjects receive a $50 gift card for each visit. You must be over 18 years old, non-pregnant, and reside in or near Jefferson County. We currently need e-cigarette smokers.
