    3.) Spring 2015 final exam schedule corrected

    There were some incorrect dates listed for the final exam schedule for the Spring 2015 semester.  The corrected final exam schedule is located at http://louisville.edu/registrar/finalspr. If you are an instructor and have already created/posted your syllabus for spring, please double-check the link to verify the date/time is correct. If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar’s Office at regoff@louisville.edu or call 502-852-1544.

     

    4.) New year = new mileage rate

    Revised IRS standard mileage rates for 2015 began Jan. 1.  The new rates are as follows:

    ·       $.575/mile for business mileage (a 1.5 cent increase from 2014);

    ·       $.23/mile for moving/relocation mileage (a .5 cent decrease from 2014). 

    The Controller’s Office website and travel pamphlet reflect the new rates. Travel vouchers will be updated as of Jan. 19 to give travelers time to submit their December travel at the 2014 rate.

    5.) Note changes for iClicker for Spring 2015

    iClicker has some policies that will affect the use of used clickers. If you are using iClickers with your class in the spring, please place an announcement in your courses that students must register using Blackboard (registration through Blackboard is free) or anyone registering a used clicker on the iclicker.com website will be charged a one-time $6.99 registration fee. New version of softwar is needed as well.

    6.) Changes begin today for international travel requests

    Beginning Jan. 5, all faculty, staff and international group travel requests should be sent to fasit@louisville.edu. As per university policy, all international travel requires Provost approval.

    7.) Family and Friends Campus Visit Program scheduled for February

    Feb. 5, 10:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., SAC, Room 310

    Do you have a son or daughter who is a high school senior or junior? The Office of Admissions is hosting a campus visit reserved just for you and your student! Executive Director of Admissions Jenny Sawyer will host a 45-minute information session. Following the session will be a 90-minute student-guided walking tour of Belknap campus.     8.) Visit Morocco to investigate women’s issues with the Women’s Center

    The Women’s Center is partnering with Theresa Hayden in justice administration to lead a trip to Morocco from May 18 to May 29 to investigate women’s issues such as human trafficking, health and fair trade. If you know of any students who might be interested in this unique opportunity, please direct them to the Women’s Center for additional Information. Open to undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

    9.) Attend the Part-time Faculty Institute

    Ever wonder if you are gathering the right data from your students? Do you understand how to use formative and summative assessment? During the session, you will be invited to reflect upon your own process of assessment to determine how to make the most of the data you gather. Nisha Gupta and Il Barrow will help us identify new ways and tools to assess student learning and critical thinking.     10.) Lab Safety & Hazardous Waste training/Radiation Safety Orientation

    Jan. 8, 9 a.m. to noon, Donald Baxter I Auditorium

    Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend the Lab Safety/Hazardous Waste session, 9 a.m.to 11:15 a.m. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years. Individuals who will work with or around radioactive materials should attend the Radiation Safety Orientation session, which is from 11:15 a.m.to noon. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in.

    11.) Type 1 diabetes mellitus study for adolescents and adults aged 12 to 35 years

    The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and the Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety of an experimental medication in 12- to 35-year-olds who have recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. If the subject qualifies to take part in this research study, participation lasts up to two years; he/she will receive the study medication or a placebo and study-related care at no cost . Compensation available for time/travel.

    12.) Type 2 diabetes mellitus study for children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years

    The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and the Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the metabolism, as well as safety, of a medication in children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. If the child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend three clinic visits; receive the study medication and study-related care at no cost.     13.) Autism study for children 4 to 10 years old

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate how a medication treats abnormal EEG’s without seizures, as well as behavioral and neurological symptoms, in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If a child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. Parents will be offered compensation for time/travel.

    14.) Research study for nausea and vomiting after a scheduled surgery, birth through 17 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of a drug given orally prior to a scheduled surgery that is used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting.  Children from birth to 17 years of age may be eligible for participation.  Subjects may be compensated for time/travel.

    15.) Pain study, infants and toddlers, less than 2 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate acetaminophen given into a vein to treat moderate to severe pain in infants and children less than 2 years of age following surgery or an injury. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel.

    16.) Pediatric pain study, 7 through 16 years

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of an investigational drug used to treat moderate to severe prolonged or persistent pain.  Children 7 to less than 17 years of age who require continuous analgesia for moderate to severe pain for an extended period of time may be eligible for participation.  Patients will be reimbursed for reasonable travel costs associated with their participation in the study.

    17.) Pediatric constipation study

    The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit is conducting a clinical research study to assess the efficacy and safety of an investigational drug used to treat constipation. Children 6 to 17 years of age who have been diagnosed with functional constipation and are able to swallow capsules may be eligible to participate. Patients may be compensated for time/travel associated with their participation in the study.
