    1.) Corrected link: Last chance! Applications due for Delphi U Online 2015

    A few slots remain for Delphi U Online 2015. Applications are due Feb. 4. The spring offering will launch Feb. 9 and conclude April 12. Work with colleagues to identify and implement best practices for online instruction, and leave Delphi U Online with a head start on creating or redesigning an online course.

    2.) AAUW interest meeting for staff to be held at HSC

    Feb. 5, noon to 1 p.m., Abell Administration Building, #109

    RSVP required

    Interested in advancing equity for women and girls and missed the last interest meeting? The UofL Women’s Center is hosting another meeting for staff who may be want to organize an on-campus American Association of University Women (AAUW) group for staff. Come and learn more about an organization that has empowered women over the years. Representatives from the local AAUW will speak and a light lunch will be served. RSVP no later than noon, Feb. 2 by emailing Phyllis M. Webb or calling 852-8976.

    The School of Medicine, Vice Dean for Research will host a reception to honor the SOM extramural research grant award recipients during July-December 2014.

    The division of cardiovascular medicine features Burns Blaxall, PhD, professor, director of translational science, co-director, Heart Institute Research Core, molecular cardiovascular biology, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Blaxall will present: “New approaches to an old disease: therapeutic discovery for heart failure.”

    8.) Medicine: Dr. Robert Friedland

    Medicine Grand Rounds features Robert P. Friedland, MD, professor of neurology and the Mason C. and Mary D. Rudd Endowed Chair in Neurology at UofL. Dr. Friedland will present How To Do Gene Therapy in the Kitchen: The Role of Gut Bacteria in Brain Disease, focusing on understanding the complexity of human microbiota residing with our bodies, the role of the microbiota in neurodegenerative disorders and stroke and how this information can be used to develop better preventative measures.
