    1.) SuperUber: Interactive Environments program free for students, employees

    6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. March 11, Bomhard Theater, Kentucky Center for the Arts, 501 Main St.

    Free for students, faculty and staff with UofL ID

    SuperUber, a collective of new media artists from Brazil, will discuss their interactive environments that blend art, technology, architecture and design. They will describe their creative processes and interaction with large public audiences. The lecture is sponsored by the Speed Art Museum, a member of the Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships, and is part of The Contemporary Art Park series.

    2.) J. Blaine Hudson to be inducted into A&S Hall of Honor

    Please join us as we induct the late dean and professor of Pan-African Studies, J. Blaine Hudson, PhD, into the College of Arts and Sciences Hall of Honor. A reception will immediately follow the induction ceremony. This celebration is free and open to the public, but seating is limited so registration is required. Register online.

    3.) Rauch Planetarium to host Mardi Gras party

    1:30 p.m. — 5 p.m. March 2, Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium

    Blast off into family-friendly Mardi Gras fun at the planetarium’s Mardi Gras party. Kids get to make masks, UV bead necklaces and shakers and then get to shake their shakers to the awesome festive sound of UofL School of Music’s Steel Drum Band. Perfect Little Planet will show hourly beginning at 1:30 p.m., with the last show beginning at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. More information at planetarium.louisville.eduEmail. 852-6665.

    9.) Neuroscience Day registration and abstract submission open

    Registration and poster abstract submission is now open for the 24th Annual Louisville Neuroscience Day to be held Monday, April 21, in the Center for Translational Research building. The deadline for both is March 31 at 6 p.m. The plenary speaker will be Rachel Wong, PhD, of the University of Washington. The event also features internal speakers and a poster competition. Confirmation of abstract submission will be sent by April 7, and some will be selected for the DataBlitz. See website for details.

    10.) Study Abroad taking donations for book drive, gift card raffle

    The Office of Study Abroad and International Travel is collecting gently used textbooks and children’s books until March 20. For every book donated, you will be entered to win a $50 gift card to the university bookstore along with a t-shirt and mug from the International Book Project. This is open to all UofL students, staff and faculty, and books will be collected on the first floor of Brodschi Hall.     11.) Course load for summer 2014 classes in Blackboard extended to March 4

    Blackboard summer 2014 courses were slated to be available as of March 1. However, due to inclement weather cancellations, the loading of summer 2014 courses will be extended until Tuesday, March 4, to ensure sufficient time for course information to be entered.     Is your department going blue for colon cancer awareness and Dress in Blue Day?     Why have modern scholars so persistently analyzed Virginia Woolf’s mental distress as virtually unique – the affliction of a genius set apart from other men and women of the Victorian and Edwardian Age? Suzette Henke, professor of English and Morton Chair of Literary Studies, will examine case histories and consider analogies between Woolf’s reported symptoms and those observed in patients admitted to institutional confinements at the turn of the last century.
