UofL is featured in the 2017 Princeton Review Guide to 375 Green Colleges. The eighth annual guide was released in September and profiles colleges with the most exceptional commitments to sustainability. It chooses colleges based on a “Green Rating” score from 60 to 99. UofL’s “Green Rating” was 93.

Faculty and staff notables

Brandeis Law librarian Scott Campbell has published a compilation of Louis D. Brandeis quotations. “The Quotable Brandeis” is now available from Carolina Academic Press and includes more than 500 quotes from the Supreme Court justice, organized by category, as well as an index and sources.

Mondays at 9:30 a.m. WHAS-TV and WLKY-TV also run the UofL stories in their Monday afternoon and Saturday morning newscasts, respectively. Segments can be found on YouTube.

Monday, Dec. 4: UofL medical school students are being trained in dealing with mass casualty situations like a mass shooting or terrorist bombing. It’s part of a new, first-of-its-kind certificate program being offered at UofL.

UofL Kentucky Author Forum presents Masha Gessen, ‘The Future is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia’

Masha Gessen is a Russian-American journalist, LGBT activist, and biographer of Vladimir Putin. Now she details how, in the space of a generation, Russia has surrendered to a new strain of autocracy. 2018 Pediatric Care Symposium

Join us for the 2018 ‘Just for Kids’ Pediatric Care Symposium, on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at the Louisville Marriott East.  This program will provide a clinical update on the management of pediatric patients. Topics will provide pediatric updates on cardiology, childhood cancers, psychiatry, endocrinology, child trafficking, neurology and more. The keynote speaker is American Academy of Pediatrics president-elect, Colleen Kraft, MD, FAAP. Kraft will begin her one-year term as president on Jan. 1, 2018.

Meet the Professor: Cheri Levinson, ‘Using Technology to Develop Novel Treatments for Eating Disorders’

The Liberal Studies presents monthly lunch & lecture series “Meet the Professor.” Eating disorders are the deadliest of any mental illness. Although the stereotype is a teen girl, “the reality is that eating disorders affect all ages, ethnicities and gender… and plays into why people don’t get help,” says Dr. Cheri Levinson of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Director of the new EAT (Eating Anxiety Treatment) Lab and Clinic. She will discuss her research on new interventions to treat eating disorders. RSVP is required.

Get Healthy Now inclement weather policy

During the course of the year, the University of Louisville may decide to close campus or operate on a delayed schedule in cases of inclement weather. When UofL offices are closed, the Get Healthy Now Wellness Center will be closed as well. Regular hours of operation will begin when the closure is lifted.

The Get Healthy Now Wellness Center closed for Christmas and New Year’s Holiday

The GHN Wellness Center will be closed on December 21 and 22 for Deep Cleaning, and December 23– 25 for the holiday observance.  We will be open on Tuesday, December 26-30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The GHN Wellness Center will be closed on Friday, December 31– January 1 for the holiday observance. Normal hours of operation will resume Tuesday, January 2, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Participants for Prayer Study wanted

Researchers at the University of Louisville and Penn State are looking for participants to complete a 45-minute survey on their private prayer behaviors and beliefs. Questions or concerns about the study can be directed to Dr. Stephanie Winkeljohn Black via email.
