    2.) Microbiology and Immunology Defense Seminar

    The Department of Microbiology and Immunology Seminar Series presents the doctoral dissertation, “A Role for Tolerogenic Gut CD103+ Dendritic Cells in the Protection of Male Lupus-prone Mice from Disease,” by Anita Chhabra, PhD candidate in the lab of Michele Kosiewicz, PhD.

    3.) 41st National Conference on the Black Family in America

    The conference committee invites faculty, staff and students to submit proposals to facilitate 60-minute concurrent workshops addressing one or more of the following conference tracks– economic empowerment, education, health and wellness, social justice and spirituality. This year’s theme is “50 Years of Progress and Struggle: Where Do We Go from Here?” The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1. For more information please call Tierney Bates at 852-0229.

    4.) Important Information for those enrolled in UofL Health Plans

    Employees enrolled in the 2014 Anthem BlueCross BlueShield health plan will receive new ID cards in the mail soon. Your new ID card is a combination ID card for health and Express Scripts pharmacy benefits. As of Jan. 1, Express Scripts ID cards will not be valid. You must present your new Anthem ID card for pharmacy benefits. Employees who elected coverage for the first time for vision, dental or FSA benefits will receive new ID cards. Watch your mail and don’t throw away your cards. For more information, visit HR benefits.

    5.) Accepting applications for Community Engagement grants

    The Office of Community Engagement Faculty Grants program fosters UofL faculty and staff projects within the West Louisville and Jefferson County community. Grants focus on infrastructure development, research and non-research projects which hold a community participatory action perspective. A total of $20,000 is available for the 2013-14 grant announcements. Funding from grants will begin July 2014. Application deadline is March 3.

    6.) School counseling program information session

    Interested in becoming a school counselor? This session will provide participants with information about the responsibilities of school counselors and employment options.     7.) Office of Radiation Safety’s holiday isotope ordering schedule

    Last day to order radioactive isotopes will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, for delivery on Thursday, Dec. 19. With the university holiday schedule, we do not want to have any attempted radioactive material delivery during closed hours. We will resume ordering on Thursday, Jan. 2.
