Ten schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference – including UofL – are classified as “very high research activity” schools by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In addition to UofL, they are Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State, Miami, Notre Dame, Pitt, UVa and Virginia Tech. Only 108 universities in the country have achieved this designation.

3.) Active shooter exercise planned for Administrative Annex
Aug. 7
UofL will hold an active shooter exercise in the Administrative Annex today. The building will be closed from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and access will be denied. People walking near the building may hear simulated gunshots, but the noise should be confined within the building.

6.) Filson Friday presents “Camp Zachary Taylor: An Institution of the Great War”

Free for UoL faculty, staff, students
Camp Taylor was one of the nation’s 16 cantonments erected during World War I, built to house an entire army. It opened on September 5, 1917, just outside of Louisville as a “place where Kentucky and Indiana soldiers trained for war.” Associate Curator of the Special Collections Jennie Cole will share stories and images of Camp Taylor. The Filson Historical Society is part of UofL’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

8.) Libraries Robotic Retrieval System undergoes preventive maintenance

The Libraries’ Robotic Retrieval System located in Ekstrom Library will undergo quarterly preventive maintenance August 12 through August 14. Items requested from the RRS may be delayed or slow because of the maintenance. Items that are delayed will be available that evening or the following morning.
