    The opening ceremony for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games is tonight starting at 7 p.m. There are 12 athletes in Rio who have worn Cardinal red: swimmer Kelsi Worrell (USA), basketball player Angel McCoughtry (USA), rugby player Jessica Javelet (USA), distance runner Wesley Korir (Kenya), swimmer Joao De Lucca (Brazil), swimmer Andrea Kneppers (Netherlands), track and field athlete Chinwe Okoro (Nigeria), swimmer Tanja Kylliainen (Finland), swimmer Grigory Tarasevich (Russia), track and field athlete Matt Hughes (Canada), swimmer Carlos Claverie (Venezuela), and swimmer Marcelo Acosta (El Salvador).

    1.) Freshmen Move-In Day will affect parking

    The following parking lots will be closed at noon Aug. 12, for Freshmen Move-In Day preparations: Resident parking lot adjacent to Miller Hall; Unity Place;

    Resident parking lot adjacent to Kurz Hall from Kurz Hall to Cardinal Blvd.

     

    The following parking lots will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16: The southern portion of the 3rd and West Brandeis Avenue (blue) lot; 1st Street from Cardinal Blvd to West Brandeis Avenue

     

    On Wednesday, Aug. 17, all vehicles leaving the north end of campus will need to exit via the driveway to 2nd Street, between the College of Business and the Speed Museum.

     

    The North Information Center lot will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. to assist with move-in.  Visitors may park in the Floyd Street Garage, Speed Museum Garage or at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.  A shuttle will be provided from Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    3.) Deadline approaching for funding opportunity: UofL-NSF I-Corps Site

    August 11

    Do customers need your innovation? Let the UofL-NSF I-Corps Site program help with the discovery and commercialization of STEM innovations. Inventors and researchers partner with entrepreneurial mentors to develop a strategy to get innovative products to market. Awards are up to $2,500 per team. The program is open to all UofL faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Applications are due by August 11.

    4.) Webinar scheduled on regulatory/operational challenges of biorepositories

    August 9, 2-3 p.m., Room 124, Clinical & Translational Research Bldg., HSC; Free

    More research includes the use of biorepositories, however the creation and use of biorepositories can pose regulatory and operational challenges, especially in the face of a possibly changing regulatory landscape. This webinar will address repository models, repository management considerations, regulatory considerations (HHS, FDA, HIPAA), informed consent, and potential implications from the Common Rule Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM).
