1.) Officials to break ground on SAC renovation Wednesday
UofL officials will turn dirt at a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, Aug. 31, to celebrate the renovation and expansion of the Swain Student Activities Center. The ceremony will be at 1 p.m. in the grassy lot on the southwest side of the SAC, near the bookstore entrance. The campus community is invited. Once completed in fall 2018, the SAC will be expanded by more than 32,000 square feet and feature more dining venues and meeting spaces to help meet student demand.
2.) College students at risk for suicide: What you can do to help
September 6, 1-2 p.m., Shumaker Research Building, 139; Free
As part of the Cards SPEAK Launch and National Suicide Prevention Week, Dr. Laura Frey will speak about the prevalence of suicidal ideation and behavior among college students, warning signs to look out for, and how to ask/respond if students are at risk. She and Tracie Meyer will also cover resources on campus to go to for help. Register for the program via email.

3.) Conflict of interest policy reminder: Research and sponsored projects
As the semester begins and new project participants arrive at UofL, please ensure that any individual receiving any portion of their compensation through an externally-funded project and any individual participating in research under the auspices of UofL, regardless of compensation, has completed their annual Attestation and Disclosure Form (ADF) requirement before they are added to the project. This includes UofL students, faculty, and staff, and also visiting students and visiting scholars.

4.) Thursday: Parking plans at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium
Sept. 1
All purple permit holders will park at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center parking lot N on Thursday, Sept. 1. The Cardinal Shuttle will provide service to campus from this lot. Purple permit holders may park in green, blue or yellow spaces after 2 p.m. Thursday. TARC Route #98 will not operate on this day. 5.) Webinar: Understanding Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
August 31, 2-3 p.m., 301 S, J.D. Nichols Campus for Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Free
This webinar will provide the research administrator with a practical overview of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). The presenter will provide guidance on reviewing FAR clauses and determination if the clauses are applicable to the request for proposal or contract. Situational examples will be reviewed when FAR clauses are present in RFPs and contracts, which are not applicable. Tools and tips for fundamental research exemptions and acceptable practices will be discussed.

6.) International Travel HSC Office hour changes announced
August 30, 9-11:30 a.m.
International Travel Office Hours will last from 9-11:30 on Tuesday, August 30 instead of until noon. On Thursday, September 15, they will be cancelled. Office Hours are normally Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to noon, and Thursdays, 12-4 p.m. in room 219 of the A building.

7.) School of Music faculty artist performance scheduled
September 8, 8 p.m., School of Music, Comstock Concert Hall 105 W. Brandeis Ave.
Dr. Reese Land serves as assistant professor at UofL teaching trumpet, trumpet literature, historical brass, and directing the trumpet ensemble. An avid performer, he performs venues such as Orchestra Kentucky Bowling Green, the Brass Band of Louisville, the Kentucky Baroque Trumpets, the Don Krekel Jazz Orchestra and others. Jason Dovel joined the University of Kentucky School of Music faculty in 2013. He’s a versatile performer on the modern trumpet, Baroque trumpet and Renaissance cornetto.

The Office of the EVPRI is accepting applications for the Internal Grants Program with a deadline of Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. The Internal Grants Program (Research I, Research II and URG) aims to assist faculty in new highly productive research projects. All grant categories are open to full-time faculty.

Wald, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University will present, “Fostering Reflective Capacity With Interactive Reflective Writing: ‘Reflection Apprenticeship’ Learner and Teacher. The workshop will use a combination of didactic and interactive learning to explore the concept of fostering reflection in health care professions education and practice.
