5.) Meet the Professor: Ché Rhodes on ‘Recognizing Quality and Value in Handmade Glass’
September 1, noon, University Club; $15 per person; $10 for students, includes lunch
Ché Rhodes, head of the Studio Glass Program in the Fine Arts Department, will address issues of connoisseurship in fine art and fine craft, using handmade glass as a model. He will discuss the practical aspects of recognizing quality in handmade glass, as well as how quality and personal sensibility relate to one another to produce value. Reservations required.

This webinar will provide the research administrator with a practical overview of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). The presenter will provide guidance on reviewing FAR clauses and determination if the clauses are applicable to the request for proposal or contract. Situational examples will be reviewed when FAR clauses are present in RFPs and contracts, which are not applicable. Tools and tips for fundamental research exemptions and acceptable practices will be discussed.

10.) Stanford University researcher will present colloquium on DNA findings

Dr. Ksenia Terekhova, will present a talk on the topic “Single-molecule Studies of DNA Topology by Type IA Topoisomerase I and III.” Dr. Terekhova who is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Structural Biology Department at Stanford University received her MS degree in Physics from U of L in 2007.

August 30, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Delphi Center Lab
The 90-minute course will cover basic functionality such as login, navigation, and document uploads and will also cover the Control Panel, in particular the basics of Blackboard’s Grade Center. This is a must for any GTA who will be grading and/or teaching using Blackboard. Graduate students interested in attending can register and find more information on the PLAN website.
