1.) Use of campus grounds policy reminder
Belknap Campus
Outdoor events on Belknap Campus grounds must be registered with the Office of Student Involvement. Permission will be granted if the proposed activity/event is conducted in accordance with the Use of Grounds policy. The online event request form must be submitted online prior to the event/activity. Once approved, Student Involvement will issue a permit and notify Physical Plant, the UofL Police Department, the Office of Risk Management, and other offices pertinent to the request.

The Digital Media Suite (DMS) will reopen on August 22 at 10 a.m. with a wide variety of new and updated resources and services. Learn how you or your students can check out audio and visual equipment, record in our green screen studio, create digital media assignments using any of the Adobe Creative Cloud apps, or utilize Apple or Android phones and tablets for course work.

The School of Public Health and Information Sciences is hosting the inaugural Woodson Lecture featuring Jonathan Samet, MD, Distinguished Professor & Chair, Dept. of Preventive Medicine, USC Keck School of Medicine, and Director, USC Institute for Global Health. Dr. Samet will present “The Never-Ending Story of Tobacco and Health.” The Woodson Lectureship Endowment, which is providing support for this program, was established to bring national and international public health leaders to UofL.

7.) Green Tip: Save on State Fair admission and get free ride on TARC
Headed to the Kentucky State Fair Aug. 18-28? Use your UofL ID for a free ride to the Fair on TARC Routes 2 or 18 from downtown or Belknap campus and save $4/person on admission while also avoiding $8 in parking fees. This year, TARC will also operate a special State Fair Connector route on Central Ave. (between 7th St. Road and Crittenden Drive) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the Fair. TARC rides and Fair admission are free for kids 5 and under.

8.) Louisville Healthy Heart study

Andrew DeFilippis, MD, of CV Medicine is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of environmental exposures on cardiovascular disease risk.
Participation requires two 45-minute visits to complete a questionnaire, EKG, and give blood and urine samples. Subjects receive a $100 gift card. Participants must be over 18 years old, reside in or near Jefferson County and not be pregnant or have cancer, drug/substance abuse problem or severe disease of lung, heart, liver, kidney, brain or blood.

UofL Medicine Grand Rounds returns, and features Jesse Roman, MD, FACP, FACCP, Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Chairman of the UofL Department of Medicine. Dr. Roman will present “Leadership in the Time of Cholera” focusing on the state of the department, how physician leadership can promote positive change in times of distress, and stimulating a discussion about medical education.
