Today’s farmers markets: New vendors offering plants, wind chimes
1.) Gray Street
Thursdays through Oct. 30, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 400 block of E. Gray Street, rain or shine
Some items available today will include: watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, raspberries, corn, green beans, squash, zucchini, cabbage, potatoes, cucumbers, onions and bell peppers. Also old-world style Italian cheeses, turnovers, small tomato pies, granola, jams, pickles, salsa, caramel granola cookies. Lunch options will be Sweet ‘N’ Savory (crepes and gelato) and Grind (hamburgers). New vendor KM Botanicals and Greenery will sell potted garden plants, tropical plants, succulents and flowers.

Some items available today include: apples, watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, tomatoes, corn, green beans, squash, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, potatoes, peppers, onions and pasture-raised poultry (frozen), lamb (frozen) and eggs. Also cinnamon rolls, breads, locally made tea, and bags made from locally sourced coffee bean bags. A new vendor joins the market this week: Wind Chimes by Bruce. Also try a free smoothie and a little yoga at the Get Healthy Now booth until 5 p.m.

3.) Inaugural Entrepreneurship Academy application deadline August 29
The University of Louisville School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies is offering the first Entrepreneurship Academy. This four-session academy, scheduled for the fall semester, will introduce graduate students to the process of entrepreneurial thinking in an academic setting. The Delphi Center and HR are accepting registrations for the Fall 2014 Successful Supervisor Series. The curriculum is designed to help new and experienced supervisors enhance their skills and bring greater value to the university. 5.) UofL ID provides free rides to the fair
Headed to the Kentucky State Fair? Avoid the $8 parking fee and get a free ride to the fair from HSC or Belknap campus on TARC with UofL ID. Special service runs all 10 days of the fair (Aug. 14 to 24) with buses every hour from 6:30 a.m. to11 p.m. Simply catch the “2 – State Fair” bus from downtown or Belknap along 3rd Street or Eastern Parkway. The fairgrounds TARC stop will be on Circle of Champions opposite Broadbent Arena with free tram. Kids ages 6 to 17 ride for 80 cents. Children under 6 ride free.

6.) Filson Friday topic: Changed Face of Agriculture in 20th Century
Aug. 15, noon, Filson Historical Society
Free for UofL faculty, staff and students
During the 20th century, agriculture in Kentucky and the Ohio Valley region changed tremendously. Ward Wars I and II, the Great Depression, and post-World War years had a profound impact on farms and farming communities. Mark Wetherington, director of the Filson Historical Society, will examine some of the major changes and illustrate the lecture with images from the Filson collections. The Filson Historical Society is part of UofL’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

7.) Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health
Aug. 15, 1 to 2 p.m., Ambulatory Care Building, Auditorium
Jared Bolton, MD, UofL department of obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health, will present Historical Landmarks in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The presentation will include a review of prominent physicians, their impact and the history of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Louisville. He will also discuss the future direction and possibilities in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Maria Koutourousiou, assistant professor in the UofL department of neurosurgery, will present Endoscopic Endonasal Approach to the Posterior Cranial Fossa: Transclival Approach at the free CME Neuroscience Grand Rounds.
