DID YOU KNOW?
The University of Louisville has placed first in Kentucky and 15th in the nation in RecycleMania, an eight-week recycling contest involving nearly 400 colleges and universities. UofL recycled 63.5 percent of its waste from Feb. 1 to March 28, also earning the contest’s Gorilla Prize in Kentucky for keeping a whopping 245,859 pounds – 7.2 pounds per person – out of the trash. The accomplishment equaled removing 258 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from the air or taking 22 cars off the road.

Registration due May 28, 5 p.m.
The 2015 Open Walls exhibit of artwork by UofL faculty and staff is scheduled for June 5 to 26 in the Photographic Archives gallery in the lower level of Ekstrom Library. The exhibit, which is in its fifth year, is an opportunity for faculty and staff who are not professional or exhibited artists to share their work. All media (i.e., paintings, photographs, woodworking, mixed media, fiber arts, jewelry, crafts) is accepted. Click on these links for the guidelines and the registration form.

3.) Mammogram screening on Belknap rescheduled for May 4
May 4, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Gottschalk Circle (next to Shumaker Research Building)
UofL employees, age 40 and over. Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid will be billed. UofL insurance covers 100 percent.
The mammogram screening that was originally scheduled for April 13 on Belknap Campus has been rescheduled for Monday, May 4. There are still appointments available. UofL insurance will cover 100 percent. Call today to schedule your appointment! 852-6318.

CODRE and the Office of the EVPRI offers diversity grants for UofL minority undergraduate students conducting research in the areas of science, technology, engineering and/or math and also UofL undergrads to conduct research in areas that impact populations which are diverse, under-served, under-represented and/or vulnerable populations. Dr. Heidi McKee is an expert in digital research and ethical research practices at Miami University in Ohio. She will offer a workshop addressing methodological and ethical issues when doing digital scholarship: Individuals, Communities, and Corporations: Navigating Ethical Issues When Researching with(in) Digital Technologies. Sponsored by the Thomas R. Watson endowment, whose programmatic theme this year is the investigation of how academics can be responsive teachers, researchers and community partners.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomes Scott Scutchfield, MD, department of orthopaedic surgery, University of Kentucky, and Dwight Burney III, MD, New Mexico Orthopaedics. This Friday, please join us for a pediatric grand rounds featuring Jeremy Veenstra VanderWeele, MD. VanderWeele is associate professor of psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He will be presenting “Pathways to New Treatments in Autism Spectrum Disorder.” The presentation is the first of Friday’s annual Pediatric Pharmacology Update, which will discuss autism spectrum disorders. The symposium runs until noon.
