UofL will host the College Women’s Leadership Conference at Ekstrom Library, Belknap Campus June 5-7. The conference is open to any college undergraduate and graduate student in Kentucky. Conference registration is $65.
Kennedy-Townsend will speak on the topic “Women Taking Power Seriously” at 11:30 a.m. June 7.
The eldest child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, Townsend is a director at the Rock Creek Group, a hedge fund of funds. As Maryland’s first woman Lt. Governor, Townsend was in charge of a multimillion dollar budget and had oversight of major cabinet departments, including economic development and transportation, state police, public safety and correction and juvenile justice. Prior to being elected Lt. Governor, she served as deputy assistant attorney general of the United States.
Other speakers include: Valeisha Butterfield Jones, the youth vote chair of the Obama for America campaign; Jane Hight McMurry, president, Effective Business Communication; Hilary Corna, author of “The One White Face;” and Carmen April, foot and ankle surgeon, who will speak on “Blogging to Build a Brand.”
