After proposing to eliminate or reduce a number of bus routes, including several that directly affect UofL’s Belknap Campus, TARC announced Tuesday that it would revisit its proposal and, at least for the short term, leave its routes intact. TARC officials cited community feedback as the reason for the decision.
UofL officials asked faculty, staff and students to weigh in during the public comment period that ended May 18. Almost 100 people sent comments to the university, while several others sent their remarks directly to TARC. UofL submitted the comments to TARC Friday. TARC received more than 700 comments from the community, including the UofL feedback.
“I’m pleased that TARC officials took our concerns into account,” said Larry Owsley, vice president for business affairs. “We have had a good partnership with TARC, and it was important to both of us that they take into consideration the needs of the university community.”
TARC is looking at options to reduce a $4.6 million budget deficit. The transit authority will implement a 25-cent increase on adult fares beginning July 1.
