To figure out the murder mystery at the center of the University of Louisville’s last theater production of the season, viewers will need to take the hint.
The UofL Department of Theatre Arts will present “Hint! A Masked Murder Mystery” April 15-20 at Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St. Directed by Assistant Professor Erin Crites, the show is UofL’s take on “Clue” with a commedia dell’arte twist.
Commedia dell’arte is an Italian-based form of theatre involving masked characters, physical comedy and improvisation. The UofL production of “Hint!” will combine all of those elements into an all-new play crafted by Crites, Brian Kuwabara and the entire company of actors.
“You may have played the mystery board game or watched the movie, but this production is truly a UofL original,” Crites said.
Like its inspiration, “Hint!” follows the shenanigans of several guests at Mr. Boddy’s party after a murder takes place. The party guests are also the suspects as they determine who did it, with what and where. The actors will improv parts of the show each night with audience input.
“Hint!” will include some adult content that may not be suitable for young children. Performances are 8 p.m., April 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20 with a matinee 3 p.m., April 19. There is no performance on April 18. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $12 for students.
