During the event, Louisville philanthropists Lewis Sonny and Gladys Bass unveiled a new sign for the facility, which is located just north of the Belknap Campus on Bloom Street.

The Bass family donated $1 million to the project in 2007. UofL Provost Shirley Willihnganz thanked them for the donation and said, You have helped us create a dynamic and diverse learning environment—helping these children learn from and respect each other.

The $13.8 million project is a joint effort of Family Scholar House (formerly Project Women), UofL and the Kentucky Housing Corp. The facility is operated by the university’s College of Education and Human Development.

The facility, which provides 56 affordable apartments, education and child care for low income single-parent families, is at full capacity.
