Ramos is executive director of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, a New York City-based nongovernmental organization that has worked for two decades internationally to promote women’s human rights and to combat sexual exploitation, particularly prostitution and trafficking.

Her free, public talk will begin at 6 p.m. in Speed Art Museum, 2034 S. Third St.; there will be a reception afterward. Ramos’ talk is the annual Minx Auerbach lecture in women’s and gender studies, which UofL’s women’s and gender studies department sponsors during Women’s History Month.

Ramos also works on environmental justice issues to address race, class and gender inequalities. The former executive director of the Rainforest Foundation, Ramos serves on the board of the National Hispanic Environmental Council.

The American Humanist Association awarded her its Humanist Heroine Award in 2009 and the Puerto Rican Bar Association also has honored her with awards.
