Work to repair the Eastern Parkway bridge is part of a project that started in August 2009 to provide better access to campus from I-65 at Warnock Street and to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety on Eastern Parkway.

Bridge work originally was scheduled to be completed by Jan. 1 but was delayed when workers discovered previously undetected damage to the bridge supports and by complications in getting permission to work in the CSX Railroad right of way. The bridge spans CSX tracks between Brook and Floyd streets.

A separate project, construction of a new gateway to campus at the corner of Third Street and Eastern Parkway, is scheduled to begin after the current work is completed.

That work is expected to be complete before the start of the fall 2010 semester.
