Heart Disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases, are the # 1 and #4 causes of death in Kentucky, and claim more than 800,000 American lives a year.

“Many of us have been personally touched, and others of you work each day at UofL in our research laboratories, patient care areas and in the education of students and residents, and know firsthand the importance of this volunteer effort,” Dunn said. “The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. It is with the help of people like you that will enable the AHA to achieve its mission.”

UofL’s goal is to raise at least $35,000. To do so, additional participants are needed to be team captains, walkers or donors.

Easy directions on how to become involved are at the UofL Heart Walk website.

As extra incentive, the team leader whose team has the highest financial commitment as of Aug. 17 will receive two tickets to the Sept. 2 UofL/UK football game, while the individual who raises the most money will receive two tickets to the UofL/UK basketball game.
