UofL’s English department is the main sponsor of the festival events, which include:
- Screening of “Nostalgia for the Light” and discussion afterward about the Patricia Guzman film and its treatment of Chile’s political history. Manuel Medina, associate professor of classical and modern languages, will lead the discussion, and University Libraries is sponsoring, 3 p.m. April 11, Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium, Belknap Campus.
- “A Wrinkle in Time: Women Writers Envision the Future,” poetry, fiction and nonfiction readings and performance of a short Nancy Gall-Clayton play, 6 p.m. open for purchase of food and drink, 7:30 p.m. readings, April 11, The Rudyard Kipling, 422 W. Oak St.
- “The Past in Prose and Poetry: Matthew Salesses and Shane McCrae,” readings by Salesses from his novella “The Last Repatriate,” about a prisoner of war returning home to a changed country, and by McCrae from his poetry work “In Canaan,” about the true story of escaped slave Margaret Garner. Discussion afterward will focus on writing historically in fiction and poetry, 7:30 p.m. April 12, Bingham Poetry Room, Ekstrom Library, Belknap Campus.
Salesses and McCrae also will lead student workshops in fiction and poetry April 13, 10:30 a.m.–noon in Shumaker Research Building, Belknap Campus.
