Organizers hope football fans will kick off their home-game Saturdays at the morning events in Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium, which co-sponsors the series. Guests can enjoy complimentary Heine Brothers’ coffee at 9:30 a.m. and presentations at 10 a.m.

More information and registration links are at uofl.me/as-allstars2014. Each event is $10 for the general public; $8 for UofL alumni, faculty and staff; and free for UofL students who register. People who subscribe and pay for the four-event series will receive four daylong parking passes ($20 value) to use on those game days for the Speed Art Museum garage on Third Street.

Here’s the fall A&S All Stars lineup:

Sept. 27 – “The Evolution of Goodness: Why Are Animals and Humans Ever Nice?” Evolutionary biologist Lee Dugatkin discusses how goodness figures into a “survival of the fittest” world and why the continuing question has embroiled science, philosophy, religion and politics (UofL vs. Wake Forest).

Oct. 18 – “Presidential All-Stars: From the Sports Arena to the White House.” Barbara Perry, University of Virginia political scientist, U.S. presidential scholar and the 2014 Alumni Fellow for the College of Arts and Sciences, presents a multimedia look at how presidents have used athletics to boost their political images (Homecoming – UofL vs. North Carolina State).

Nov. 29 – “Game Theory: The Politics of Race and Sport.” Political scientist Ricky Jones, Pan-African studies department chair, tackles how black athletes have transformed their sports and thus affected society (UofL vs. University of Kentucky).
