    DID YOU KNOW

    UofL’s New Music Festival is an annual event devoted to the promotion of the diverse music of our times. The festival began more than 10 years ago and demonstrates the University of Louisville School of Music’s commitment to the study, performance and celebration of contemporary music. Works of the late 20th and 21st century are featured in free, open to the public concerts presented by various ensemble combinations. The festival continues all week and the schedule is available online.

     

    FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES

    UofL was well represented at the recent American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases annual meeting in Washington, DC (Liver Week, 2017). Several UofL faculty chaired sessions. Drs. Leila Gobejishvili and Irina Kirpich were awarded “Presidential Posters of Distinction.” Dr. Gavin Arteel presented “Mechanisms of Alcohol-Induced Liver Injury and Targets for Therapy,” and Dr. Craig McClain presented “Microbiome and Nutrition Interactions in Alcoholic Liver Disease.”

    Registration open for Holiday Cards Buy Local Shopping Tour

    Dec. 1, 8 a.m. start, meet at University Club; $40
    UofL and the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) will take shoppers on a whirlwind tour of local shops and restaurants on the sixth annual Holiday Cards Buy Local Shopping Tour. Registration fee includes opening and closing receptions, door prizes and transportation to more than a dozen shops on East Market Street (NULU), Fourth Street, Frankfort Avenue and Butchertown.     iRIS grant submission training offered by Office of Research Integrity

    November 8, 2-4 p.m., Room 123, Clinical Translational Research Building, HSC
    “An Introduction to Grant Submissions in iRIS” aims to provide an understanding of getting into the iRIS system and navigating through the eProposal form and Sponsor Packets. The target audience is staff and faculty who plan to seek funding through any granting agency. Training for units as a group is also available, on request.

    Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute professor Hans-Urlich Demuth to speak on ‘Molecular Medicine for Treatment of Diabetes and Alzheimer’s Disease’

    November 7, noon in the HSC Auditorium (located at the Kornhauser Library)

    Demuth is co-founder and managing director of the biopharmaceutical company, probiodrug which designed, synthetized and developed drugs to treat type 2 diabetes. The company is now focused on new therapeutic products for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The lecture is free and open to the UofL community.
